Seeing A Colorblind Future The Paradox Of Race Essay
When discussing race, having the right intention is not nearly enough to ensure progress in racial tensions; as such, only positive, tangible action can be the catalyst for change in race discourse. This general rule can help when looking at the concept of colorblindness as a supposedly well-meaning myth, which realistically only serves to continue racist attitudes and systems. Using a critical lens to determine the harm caused by colorblindness can diminish the impact and eventually eradicate a source of racist microagressions. Patricia Williams explores the inherently harmful idea of colorblindness in her book Seeing a Colorblind Future: The Paradox of Race, through exemplary anecdotal evidence. This paper aims to analyze one such anecdote to fully explain the pervasive and malicious way colorblindness is employed in everyday life. When speaking of the ideal society, a common utopian theme is often described: the perfect world would be blind to differences like class, educational l evel, religion, sexuality, gender identity, and race, yet encouraging of uniqueness and individuality. When speaking in terms of race, this seemingly perfect utopian concept is called colorblindness and actually exacerbates racist attitudes and social systems. Within this ideal there is a stark ideological contradiction in which race, one of the things that bonds people to one another, to their cultures and places of origin, is not allowed to be a factor in individualityââ¬âracial identityShow MoreRelatedCollege Program On The Ung Campus1526 Words à |à 7 Pagesprogram has definitely influenced me as a future educator. Plans for Investment The creation of a more automated and independent infrastructure is an important aspect of business that most companies wish to expand. It can provide flexibility within the company by eliminating the reliance on third party affiliates and can ultimately lead to larger profit margins. In fact, Amazon has connections to a digital mapping service called Here, a company that provides location-drive data solutions. Car makers Audi AG, BMW AG and Daimler AG recently bought Here for around $2.85 million and are currently looking for more investors. Microsoft is also in the mix as they have plans to get involved as well. Amazon and Microsoftââ¬â¢s investments in Here are important because the two companies can provide valuable logistics information to further the establishment of a series of co nnected cars throughout the world (Boston, 2016). Amazonââ¬â¢s investment in Here provides yet another crucial foundational element for a distribution network. Drones are another futuristic delivery method that Amazon has already started to heavily invest in. This concept of autonomous flight and delivery has occupied large amounts of money dedicated to lobbying for a more generous set of laws in the United States. There are a significant number of rules and regulations that are involved with drone flight and getting authorization is no easy, or cheap, task. Describe and Evaluate Two Theories of the Formation of Romantic Relationships free essay sample
In 1962 Kerckoff and Davis presented another form of relationship formation theory known as the filter model. They believed that we have three filters that are important at different times before we can enter a relationship. We start with a field of availables, those who are free for relationships and gradually narrow them down using different stages to a field of desirables, and those who we would consider as potential partners. The first filter is the social and demographic variables where we tend to pick people with similar educational and economic background to us. The second filter is the similarity of attitudes and values, where people with different values, attitudes and interests to us are filtered out. The third stage is the complementarity of emotional needs where we decide how well between the two people they fit together as a couple. Kerckoff and Davis (1962) then tested their model in a longitudinal study using student couples that had been together for more or less than 18 months. They found that attitude similarity was the most important factor up to about 18 months into a relationship, after this time psychological compatibility and the ability to meet each otherââ¬â¢s needs became important, supporting the idea of the filter model. The filter model is a useful way to think about factors that are influential in relationship development and when they might come into play. It also emphasises the importance of demographic factors and similarity of attitudes and values as filters in development of relationships, evidence shows this continues in relationship survival. However the division of relationships into stages fails to capture their fluid and dynamic nature. Real life relationships flow seamlessly. Some may develop faster and others slower than the filter model suggests.

To Kill A Mockingbird Essay Thesis Example For Students
To Kill A Mockingbird Essay Thesis Jem Grows UpTo Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, has won many prestigious awards and is still a very classic and appreciated book in our society today. Jem, a character in the book, grows up and realizes that you have to step in someone elses shoes to understand why they make the decisions that they make. Once Jem saw that the knot-hole in the tree was filled with cement he started crying because he stepped into Boo Radleys shoes. Also, When Jem learned that Mrs. Dubose had died, he stepped into her shoes and then felt sorry for her. One way that shows that Jem grows up and realizes that he has to step in someone elses shoes to understand why they make the decisions that they make is when he discovers that Nathan Radley filled the knot-hole in the tree with cement. He told Jem that he filled the tree with cement due to the fact that the tree was dying, when it was obviously not. Boo was communicating with them by placing gifts in the knot-hole. Jem steps into Boos shoes at that poin t and figures out that all Boo was trying to do was communicate with the children, and putting gifts in the knot-hole was the only way he knew how to without getting a lot of attention from the public. Jem knows that if he were locked up in his own house for that long, he would try to communicate and have a little fun with children that he sees playing around in the neighborhood. That is why he cries; he knows that Boo is just trying to be nice and communicate with them, and he just doesnt understand why Nathan Radley would cut that communication between his brother and the children Another way that shows that Jem grows up and realizes that he has to step in someone elses shoes to understand why they make the decisions that they make is when he learned that Mrs. Dubose had died. When he was reading to Mrs. Dubose, he hated it, and he hated her for making him do it for so long. Once he learned that Mrs. Dubose was a morphine addict, and that her fits were from it, he ate all of his b ad comments about her. He stepped into her shoes and saw everything from her perspective. He knew that if he were in her position, he would have probably done the same thing. That is why he asks, Did she die free; he felt sorry for her, and was expressing his condolences with that question. Even though he knew that she was dead he still asks that because he felt bad for her. He thought that she was a, Old Hell-Devil!, but once he learned that she was dying, and that the fits were from the morphine, he felt real bad for calling her all of those names. He is able to step into other peoples shoes simply because he is older. He looks deeper into issues and can interpret them better. By doing this, he sees peoples perspectives and this is why he eventually agrees with their actions. He is older, and that has made it so that he has had more experience in working with and understanding this rather simple process. Like people say, With age, comes wisdom. All Jem really had to do to eliminate conflicts with people was pretend he is them; he stepped into their shoes and saw things from there perspective. Then he understood why they made the choices they made.

CRT205 - (Critical Thinking) Analyzing Credibility Essay
CRT205 - (Critical Thinking) Analyzing Credibility - Essay Example He is a man of great repute. His experience as a mayor, a lawyer and a business man makes his an extremely credible and trust worthy person who could not be doubted about his views. Though the opinions are sincere, Guiliani is as unbiased as a person can be but as an American and particularly one who was in office at that time, he has the anger and the emotions of the affected person. His unbiased nature is best represented when he says that Bin Laden should get justice and not vengeance. But as a human being he did get a bit biased when he talked about Iraq in general. In his perceptions, government of any kind was not possible in Iraq five years back. There is just one primary opinion of overweight dogs in the advertisements. The advertisement is short and straight forward with no space for secondary ideas. But the slant is perfectly seen as the main purpose of the advertiser is to sell pedigree light and make a profit. It reflects that the society is extremely concerned about their pets and emphasizes this by triggering dog owners not to neglect their dogs by letting them become overweight. The advertisement tries to predict the future when owning a heavy dog so though it comes from a credible company, it cannot be directly depended upon. The advertisement claims to help overweight dogs lose weight. This is depicted in a comic but appealing manner by showing what overweight dogs can cause. The ad doesnââ¬â¢t directly make a claim but fortifies the need to put "dogs on a diet" and then presents a solution to it. The advertisement portrays the consequences of having an overweight dog. It creates a fear in the mind of a pet owner that, his dog, if heavy can tilt the car. These consequences are portrayed in a comic yet realistic manner thus enhancing the pet owners and the potential customers desire to have a healthy dog. The concept of having healthy pets is not new and pet owners are known to go to great lengths for the health of their pets. The
